Canoe Kayak Rapids
Part of my Wey and Arun project was to incorporate a canoe/kayak diversion into the canal.
I visited an olympic course (1972 Munich Olympics) to see the structure of such courses, how they fit within the wider landscape, how they are managed with respect to water access and control and how they are used and by whom.
They are managed by a canoe club and open to its members and guests. (The public are welcome to join the club). In the summer many people (not members) use the slower moving part of the course to ride floats and inner tubes into the town centre.
